Located between the sea and the mountains, the town of Sitges (which belongs to the province of Barcelona) offers a wide variety of leisure activities to its visitors. The Coast of Garraf, between the Mediterranean sea and the surrounding mountains, creates an unique lanscape. The interesting historic quarter, with an extensive cultural calendar, complements the luxury compounds, golf courses and marinas right next to the beach. The cuisine in Sitges gathers the most representative Catalan dishes and creates exquisite recipes like "xató".
Sitges is one of the most representative towns of the Coast de Garraf, Barcelona´s southern coast. Beaches with pristine waters, some of which have been awarded the blue flag eco-label and the mountains make Sitges a privileged destination. The urban centre is also worth a visit. It has beautiful buildings such as the churches of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla. Casa de la Vila, a 19th-century Gothic revival building and Palau Maricel, with Renaissance, Baroque and Medieval elements, are other interesting places to visit in the town. The Modernist aesthetics from the late 19th century and the early twentieth century left in Sitges beautiful buildings like Cau Ferrat, the house-studio of writer and painter Santiago Rusiñol. This artist moved to Sitges in 1891 and turned it into a meeting point for artists and intellectuals, giving it the bohemian air that it still preserved in the town.
